The Good Night Out Tour…. See MoreSee Less

Years ago I was sitting in a staff meeting when my phone rang. It was on vibrate so I just glanced at who called and it was my wife Helen. Now she wouldn’t normally call that time of day so I thought maybe something was wrong. I slipped out of the meeting and answered it. She asked me if was feeling okay. I said yes, why? She told me that morning I had picked up the wrong pill box and I had taken her menopause medicine by accident. Well, thank goodness it didn’t seem to bother me although I can say I didn’t have a hot flash all day.

Sometimes we don’t take our own medicine. By that, I mean when we advise others based on God’s Word we seem to be quick to tell others what they should do, but not always as quick to do it ourselves. What actually works better than just giving advice is to live your life as an expression of your advice. In other words, role modeling is more effective than advice-giving alone. We have all heard of those who say, β€œDon’t do as I do, do as I say”; well to those I say, β€œTake your own medicine”. Let’s be the best example of God’s Word that we can.

Matthew 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Philippians 3:17 Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.

Philippians 4:9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in meβ€”practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Coming to Matthews Indiana on May 17th – Anthem Edition….. See MoreSee Less

Coming to Matthews Indiana on May 17th - Anthem Edition…..

Are you in a dry place? There are four main words for desert or wilderness in the Bible. One of those words is Midbar. This word speaks of a place that is barren at times and flourishing at other times like a pasture or field. Part of the year the land is dry and barren and part of the year is green and bountiful. In the Bible during those times of dryness, since there is little nutrition in the grass, the sheep can become weaker, leaner, and more susceptible to disease.

We all face times of dryness, and if we are not prepared we also can become weaker and more susceptible to Satan’s attack. Let me give you a few things to consider when you are in a dry place.

1. Keep your eyes on Jesus and not the desert. Life’s experiences change, but Jesus is always there.
2. Remember the blessings of the past, and what God has done for you in the past. Know this is only temporary and God has better things in store for you.
3. Find the nourishment that is available and be thankful for it. Don’t get caught up in what you don’t have, but be thankful for what you do.
4. Know that you are not alone. Draw close to God and to other believers to give you encouragement and strength.
5. Know that these times of dryness can be some of the greatest opportunities to grow in your faith, and see the mighty hand of God touch your life.

You may be in a dry place, but you are never far away from the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Psalm 63:1 A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Isaiah 44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring.
